In the early 1990s InternetLitigators was the first Law firm to identify its primary practice area of "Internet Law" and was formally founded in 1999 to assist early business adopters of the Internet for business purposes. Internetlitigators participated in and commented upon early drafts of the CAN-SPAM Act and other innovative, first-of-its-kind Internet related legislation.

Early clients of InternetLitigators sought out this firm because they realized that the then-still-new Internet was going to significantly change the landscape for business, e-commerce, transactions, finance, and even law and litigation. In the early days, InternetLitigators held more than a few consultation seminars with other lawyers to teach them what the Internet was, how it was different from AOL, and how it was likely to impact their operations and business. When web hosting and data centers were finally born, and began to be adopted, InternetLitigators was were among the first to recognize their significance and became a leader in the web hosting industry representing web hosts, domain name registrars and registries, data centers, and numerous internet infrastructure companies and other companies seeking a presence on the Internet.
